Quebec’s Félix Auger-Aliassime advanced to the second round in Los Cabos, Mexico on Wednesday, winning 6-3, 7-5 ahead of Mexico’s Alex Hernandez.
Second seed, Auger-Aliassime still needed two hours to dismiss Hernandez, who is 521st in the world.
He erased 3-1 and 5-2 losses in the second set, thanks in part to a total collection of 15 aces (none for his rival).
The Canadian had the advantage 4-2 for breakage.
The Quebecer’s next opponent will be Steve Johnson. The American defeated Thanasi Kokkinakis in three sets.
The favorite and world number 1 Daniil Medvedev was also in action on Wednesday against Rinky Hijikata. The Russian easily got rid of Hijikata in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.
