ATP > Barbara Schett on Murray: “It is clear that things are not going very well for him”

Barbara Schett, former world number 8, now a consultant, continues to distill strong opinions for Eurosport. This time, the Austrian expresses her pessimism concerning Andy Murray, still far from the level behind which he runs despite all his efforts.

“Physically, it’s not going to get any easier for Andy Murray. It’s not just the hips, he’s had other injuries. Usually, the older you get, the harder it is to keep your body fit and healthy, and I’ve found many times that older players cramp the more they sweat. That seems to be somewhat the case with Andy Murray. Plus, the level of stress to be able to perform, because you’re running out of time, doesn’t make it any easier. It is clear that things are not going very well. We’ll never know when Andy Murray will retire, because he probably doesn’t. But I’m sure he would have liked the start of the American period to have gone better.”Schett said.

As a reminder, Murray was eliminated on the 1is tour to Washington and Montreal, as well as to the 2e turn in Cincinnati after beating Stanislas Wawrinka.
