The big favorite to win the Cy-Young Trophy in the American League of Baseball this season, the right-hander had to leave the mound after three innings in his last start, Sunday, against the Baltimore Orioles. He complained of a pain in his right calf that appeared on a defensive play and he took the road to the locker room for good once the third out was made.

The duration of his absence remains undetermined, but the Texas organization could bet on caution, since Verlander missed almost two years of activities due to an injury requiring Tommy John type surgery.

The former Detroit Tigers could well pocket the third Cy-Young of his career. He went 16-3 with a 1.84 ERA this year.
