Andújar retires and Grenier will be the rival of Argentine Etcheverry in the US Tennis Open.

New York (USA), 29 Aug. The Spanish Pablo Andújar, number 96 in the world ranking, withdrew this Monday from the US Open due to injury, shortly before his debut against the Argentine Tomás Etcheverry, the tournament reported in a note.

Andújar, 36, was scheduled to return to compete in New York for the first time after retiring, also due to injury, at the Grodzisk Mazowiecki tournament in Poland.

Frenchman Hugo Grenier, number 119 in the world, will be Etcheverry’s rival in the first round, which he arrives as the lucky loser.

The US Open is held from this Monday until August 11 in New York with the Spaniards Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz as the main threats to the throne of the Russian Daniil Medvedev.

The tournament does not have the participation of the Serbian Novak Djokovic, who cannot access the United States due to his refusal to be vaccinated against the coronavirus, nor the German Alexander Zverev, injured.
