Albi: A paradise for athletes in shorts

the essential
Installed on the banks of the Tarn, the “holiday sports villages” offer kayaking, archery, trampoline… A paradise for athletes in short pants, who acclaim the event.

The apprentice archers are in place. Ready… Shoot! The arrows fly and come to rest more or less close to the target. Five minutes of training is the time allotted to these future Robin Hoods. Position of the fingers and amplitude of the arm are worked on in order to achieve the most satisfactory result. At the exit, the children seem delighted, or so Liam and Nolan, aged 9 and 11, think.

Like minigolf or rock climbing, archery is one of the seven permanent activities offered free of charge by the new edition of the “holiday sports villages”. Like Gregory, they were a dozen parents, this Tuesday morning, to have accompanied their children. “It was my mother who kept us informed of these villages, he explains. She lives in Albi and since we were on vacation, it was time to take advantage of it. In addition, the activities are free”. The principle is simple: all you have to do is pick up tickets at the reception stand in order to be able to take part in activities lasting around 5 minutes. Each ticket is then annotated with the activity you want to perform.

A few steps in the direction of said activities to understand the extent of their success. Already fifteen people are waiting to do the trampoline. Among them, Elea, guide of the summer camp of Saint-Juéry, takes care of a group of young people. “We split into two groups: some went climbing, she says. We preferred to do the trampoline. The children are impatient. We just hope it’s not going to be too hot “.

Because if there is one thing that young and old are not looking for above all else, it’s freshness. A wish that the location along the banks of the Tarn makes it possible to achieve. But for those who ardently wish to join the river, it is possible to register for certain supervised aquatic activities. In addition to permanent activities, children can sign up for one-off activities, including kayaking. The only rule: be over 7 years old.

“We would like it to stay longer”

More than the young, it is the older children who also get caught up in the game. All regret the suspension of activities on August 12. “We would like it to stay longer, of course, admits Conchi, Albigensian who took her grandson. The young people are having fun and it’s nice to see”. In the meantime, activities continue on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., as well as on Wednesday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Please note: due to the forecasted high temperatures, “Sports sur les Berges” will exceptionally open from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. today and tomorrow. All afternoon activities are suspended on these two days. The Défi Sportif scheduled for this Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. is therefore cancelled.
