3rd league: 1:4! RWE is still waiting for the first victory

Rot-Weiss Essen suffered their second defeat in their second third division home game. The Essen team lost 4-1 (0-2) to Viktoria Köln.

Red and white food has to wait for the first win in the third game in the league. Also against Victoria Cologne there was a bitter defeat. Coach’s eleven Christopher Dabrowski lost to the Domstadters 1:4 (0:2). Robin Meißner and Marcel Risse scored the goals for the Cologne victory, and there was also an own goal from Felix Bastians. RWE slips down to 18th place in the table. However, SpVgg Bayreuth can still overtake Essen on Wednesday.

At the beginning it looked different. Essen took control and had more possession, playing numerous set pieces. They couldn’t really distinguish themselves in the opponent’s penalty area. But the visitors from Cologne made up for it: Meißner switched the fastest after a cross and pushed the ball over the line (25′). Dabrowski immediately sent his substitutes to warm up.

Yellow cards: Eisfeld, Rother, Berlinski-Fritz

The fans cheered on the Red and Whites even after they conceded, but the players seemed shocked. Especially since it got even worse before the break: Daniel Heber was too late in the penalty area against David Philipp shortly before the break and caused a penalty kick. Ex-Bundesliga professional Marcel Risse didn’t miss this opportunity and increased the score to 2-0 at the break.

After the break, there was a ray of hope: Ennali received a through ball from Rother and found striker Engelmann in the middle, who was in the starting XI for the first time this season. At the end of the game, there wasn’t much missing to score (53′). But it was Cologne who scored the goal. Or to be more precise: an Essener for the people of Cologne. After a corner, Felix Bastians unhappily headed the ball into his own goal. 0: 3 (61st). Essen’s top scorer from the service Engelmann only managed to get the goal back fifteen minutes before the end. Simon Handle put the lid on it in the final minute with the 4:1.
