Zowé Soberon wins Sporza Tour Manager: “The greatest success of my cycling career” | captain

Many feel called, only one is chosen. The Sporza Tour Manager 2022 is prey for 26-year-old Zowé Soberon. His team Soberonito collected the amazing total of 8290 points. In the Kopman podcast, the laureate tells how he managed to do this.

From holiday in Tenerife, Zowé Soberon reveals the secrets behind his success. “I’ve been traveling for two weeks, so I’ve had to maintain the Tour Manager a bit in between,” he says.

“Every night I always checked what stage was on the program the next day and who I should line up.” That casual tactic worked, because Zowé delivered the almost perfect team. He can show off 7 riders from the top 10 (only Bardet, Lutsenko and Yates are missing).

“Of course you need a bit of luck that you have the right riders from the start. For example, I immediately had the full top 4 (Vingegaard, Pogacar, Thomas and Gaudu). So I didn’t have to sacrifice transfers to that.”

For the sprints Zowé opted for Philipsen, Pedersen and Dainese. “I had taken the latter as a dark horse, but in the end he did not bring many points, so I already got rid of him at the end of the first week together with Ganna. I took Vlasov instead.”

‘Soberonito’ collected 8290 points.

I owe my victory to Paret-Peintre. Without his covid infection, I would have left Houle on the bus in the stage the Canadian won.

Contacts in the cycling world

The choice Zowé is most proud of is revelation Hugo Houle. “Thanks to him I win the Tour. And strangely enough also thanks to Paret-Peintre. In the stage that Houle won, I had him on the bus until half an hour before the start. Only when Paret-Peintre dropped out with corona did I the Canadian drafted anyway.”

Zowé is also an avid cyclist. “I still compete myself, but now at a slightly lower level than before. I’ve had the cycling bug for a long time and I also know how it all works.”

His connections in the cycling world also come in handy from time to time. “I have a friend who is a sports director for a U23 team. I have had daily contact with him to exchange tactics and discuss transfers.”

Zowé proudly posted his victory on Instagram. “The greatest success of my cycling career” it read. “You don’t win the Tour de France every year, of course, even if it’s only virtual,” Zowé adds with a laugh in Kopman.

You don’t win the Tour every day, even if only virtually.
