World Police & Fire Games in Rotterdam

On July 22, 2022, the World Police & Fire Games will be officially opened in the Dutch port city of Rotterdam. In the international competition, the best athletes from the police, fire brigade, judiciary and customs compete against each other in various disciplines. Saxony-Anhalt is represented by more than 60 athletes.

Sports Minister Dr. Tamara Zieschang said goodbye to the team from Saxony-Anhalt today at the Ministry of the Interior and Sport:

“At the World Police & Fire Games, our athletes compete against participants from all over the world. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for them. They all showed a lot of stamina and discipline in the run-up to be able to represent our country impressively internationally. In addition to sporting successes, the World Games offer much more: contacts can be made and understanding for working together can be strengthened.”

The more than 50 state police officers and around ten comrades from the Magdeburg and Halle (Saale) professional fire brigades take part in the following disciplines, among others: half marathon, judo, athletics, crossfit, shooting, cycling, triathlon, volleyball, swimming, table tennis, stair climbing , indoor rowing, wrestling, cross-country skiing and weight training.

Background: The World Police & Fire Games have been held every two years in various metropolises around the world since 1985. This year around 10,000 participants from 70 countries are expected to compete against each other in more than 60 disciplines. In addition to traditional sports such as athletics, there are also shooting and martial arts as well as area-specific comparisons such as a police dog test or special extinguishing tests for the fire brigade. Whether it’s popular or competitive sport, in a team or as a lone fighter – all active and retired employees of the security organizations can start in one or more competitions. The competitions are held at more than 30 locations in the Netherlands, with the center being the city of Rotterdam.
