Why is the NBA trade market stagnant right now?

After a fairly dynamic start to the NBA trade market in 2022, things seem to have calmed down, but not for lack of quality players available, as figures like Kevin Durant and Donovan Mitchell are waiting to be transferred thinking of the next season.

Everything seems to indicate that the main reason why the negotiations have stalled is the high prices that the teams are demanding for their figures and this is a response to huge agreements that were made just at the beginning of the campaign, as was the case of the arrival of Rudy Gobert to the Minnesota Timberwolves or Dejounte Murray to the Atlanta Hawks.

This was pointed out by journalist Fred Katz of The Athletic, who compared the current situation to what happened in 2016 with Timofey Mozgov, who received a huge contract and was the main reason other players demanded rather inflated financial deals.

It seems unlikely that any team will pay the incredible demands in the specific case of Durant and Mitchell, since beyond their quality it seems unthinkable that organizations would sacrifice their future thinking of adding a star at such a high cost.
