Werner wants to go back to RB Leipzig

Timo Werner is currently flirting openly with a farewell to Chelsea. The German national player is not happy about his prospects with the Blues and could apparently imagine a return to RB Leipzig.

Two years ago, Timo Werner moved from Leipzig to Chelsea for over 50 million euros. The international won the Champions League with the Blues the following year. Nevertheless, Werner is not really happy in London, the relationship with head coach Thomas Tuchel has cracked, Werner recently thought publicly about a change.

In 89 competitive games for Chelsea, Werner scored 23 goals and provided 21 assists. The lightning-fast striker fell short of expectations. The 26-year-old under Thomas Tuchel is not an absolute regular either. If a suitable offer for Werner (contract until 2025) is submitted to Chelsea and the Blues find a replacement, a change would probably be likely.

And in fact Werner could be drawn back to RB Leipzig. According to the Leipziger Volkszeitung the native of Stuttgart would like to switch back to the reigning DFB Cup winner. However, the newspaper does not go into detail about this.

And as of now, a Werner transfer for Leipzig would not be financially feasible. However, should the Red Bulls land slow sellers Ilaix Moriba, Nordi Mukiele (will move to PSG), Ademola Lookman and Amadou Haidara, they could have the wherewithal to make a reasonable transfer offer.

Konrad Laimer, who is in negotiations with FC Bayern, could also become a sticking point in this context. The Austrian national player would fill the Leipzig coffers again properly.

At the moment, however, that is a lot of the subjunctive. A possible Werner return to Leipzig would be romantic and sporty imaginable, but there is currently little to suggest that this chapter will be reopened this summer.
