At the Jean Guimier gymnasiumin Trappes, activities are going well.

Older children welcomed from 10 to 17 years old look happy.

They play badminton, try their hand at rugby, discover the kata, practice cycling or even go to the Viltain farm for picking.

“I like archery,” confides an 11-year-old Trappist year. She will return to 6th grade at the start of the school year.

The Minister Delegate for Cities and Housing, Olivier Klein, visiting on Tuesday 26 July, also wanted to try his hand at archery, along with Ali Rabeh, mayor of Trappes.

These activities are supervised by the departmental youth leisure center of Yvelines (CDLJ 78)led by the national police.
10 volunteer police officers are seconded on mission.

Two civic services also deal with activities.

“Since July 1, 2022, we have 45 young people. We went to Deauville for a day. The City provides the room and vehicles. We are present during all school holidays, except Christmas. We receive a lot of children from 10 to 17 years old, from all districts of Trappes, but also from some neighboring towns. They must come by their own means. For the day, everything is included except lunch. Parents must be present at the registration”

With its 32 years of career including 20 years at the departmental youth leisure center, he supervised various activities, each time with the same desire : “transmitting values ​​to young people. For example, on a walk, we pick up the waste. These are civic values. We convey principles to them, but in a playful way. »

On the strength of his experience, Christophe Pican has observed an evolution in mores. “I also work in schools, particularly on drug prevention. Previously, I had this speech for students in first terminal and now towards 4th / 3rd. Everything goes faster. In 20 years, young people are more open, especially with telephones. »

Last year, 138 young people were welcomed, including 44 % of women.
