Eight minutes before the end of the race, the leader of the race, Nick Cassidy from the “Envision” team, was unable to brake on the wet track and slid into the protective barrier at high speed. He was followed by Lucas di Grassi (Rokit Venturi) and Stoffel Vandoorne (Mercedes). Of the leaders, only Cassidy’s team-mate Robin Fringe was able to avoid a crash.

The race was never restarted and the results were decided before the lap when red flags were issued on the track. As a result, Cassidy got his first victory in a very unusual way, while di Grassi and Frinjs got on the podium.

Other pilots also experienced less serious collisions.
