Championship leader “Valmiera FC” lost 1:2 (1:1) to Jūrmala “Spartak” in their home at the Jānis Daliņas stadium.

As a result, Valmiera FC’s streak of 15 consecutive victories and 18 unbeaten matches ended. Valmieri suffered only the second loss this season.

​The home team attacked more and were rewarded for it by taking the lead in the 20th minute. After a free kick from the right side and a cross in the penalty area, the ball bounced on the line of the penalty area to Alvja Jaunzem, who was not watched by anyone, who sent it into the upper right corner of the goal with a not very strong but accurate shot.

Valmieri had several more good chances to score the second goal, but Raimonds Kroļļ’s shot was saved by goalkeeper Dāvis Ošs, other shots were blocked or the ball flew past the goal after Valmieri’s shots.

Therefore, unexpectedly in the 33rd minute, the result became a draw. The Ukrainian player Yaroslav Terekhov, playing his first game as a guest, scored a pass from the middle of the field behind the backs of the home defenders and single-handedly scored against the home goalkeeper Rihard Matrevic Kwadwo Asamoah, who used his opportunity – 1:1.

In the second half, the hosts attacked more, but the visitors scored. In the 89th minute, after a pass by Oleg Laizans, Asamoah scored another goal – 2:1 for “Spartak”.

Valmiera football players had already met “Spartak” twice this season and celebrated victories in both matches – 4:1 at home and 2:0 away.

In the second game, RFS beat “Daugavpils” 4:0 (1:0) at the Jānis Skredelas Stadium.

The home defender Petrs Mareš opened the score in the 37th minute with a penalty kick – 1:0.

In the first part of the second half, the visitors made four player changes, but in the 64th minute of RFS, Renars Varslavanas was replaced by Denis Rakel. In the 68th minute, after a corner kick, Idovu Akintola’s ball bounced off the goal line and flew back into the goal – 2:0 for the home team.

3-0 was achieved in the 76th minute by Emerson Santana, who first tried to pass to Raquel so that he could send the ball into the half-empty goal, but half a minute later he scored with a header from the left side.

In the 89th minute, the home team also made it 4-0, when Rakels scored after Kevin Friesenbichler’s pass, “Daugavpils” suffered an undeserved big loss.

In this duel, RFS had won convincing victories in both matches – 4:0 at home and 4:1 away.

In the other games of the 20th round, “Liepāja” will host “Riga” on Friday, on Saturday “Super Nova” will compete with “Auda” in Salaspils, while “Tukums 2000″/”Telms” will play at home with “Metta”.

“Valmiera” is at the head of the tournament table with 50 points in 20 matches, RFS is in second place with 45 points in 20 matches, and “Riga” is third with 40 points in 19 matches. Behind the first three are “Liepāja” with 39 points in 19 matches, “Auda” with 27 points in 18 matches and “Daugavpils” with 24 points in 19 duels. “Tukums 2000″/”Telms” and “Spartak” have 14 points in 18 matches, “Metta” has 13 points in 19 matches, while “Super Nova” has five points in 19 matches.

Ten teams are playing in the 2022 Super League. Last season, RFS triumphed for the first time in the history of the club’s existence in the championship of the Premier League, “Valmiera” took second place, and “Liepāja” won the bronze award. Meanwhile, the champion team of the previous three seasons “Riga” took the fourth place.

In the last season of the “Optibet” Future League, the first three places were occupied by “Auda”, “Tukums 2000″/TSS and “Super Nova” teams, joining the top league clubs.

The games are planned to be held in four rounds from March 11 to November 13.
