VAR is once again the protagonist against Deportivo Cali

A new championship began for Deportivo Cali and with it the refereeing controversies against the ‘sugar team’ returned.

In its league debut against Deportes Tolima, the VAR was the protagonist in two specific actions that had two Verdiblanco footballers as protagonists.

The first debatable situation arose at minute 35, when striker Ángelo Rodríguez apparently received a foul inside the area.

In the play, the referee from Choco, John Hinestroza, marked a hand from the attacker from San Andres. However, the fact that not even the VAR warned him about the possible infraction was marked on everyone’s retina.

The second controversial action came three minutes later, at minute 38, when the center-back was called by Video Arbitration to review a possible attack by Teófilo Gutiérrez against a defender from Tolima.

After reviewing the play, judge Hinestroza decided to expel the Barranquilla player, which sparked disagreement in Deportivo Cali for considering the expulsion unfair and also for not reviewing the possible foul in the 35th minute play.
