U-turn at Embolo? Swiss in conversation at Ligue 1 club

With Matthias Ginter and trainer Adi Hütter, two well-known faces have already left the Gladbach foals this summer. It is quite possible that with Breel Embolo, a third prominent name will soon be pitching camp on the Lower Rhine. A club from France should make particularly intensive efforts to attract the Swiss.

Just a few weeks ago, “Bild” reported that the Gladbachers made use of a special contract clause in the case of Breel Embolo and wanted to keep the Swiss despite his contract expiring in 2023. At that time it was said that the Foals would take the option and extend the contract with the striker for another year. The club would not risk a free transfer next summer.

However, the “footmercato” portal is now reporting that an offer for the 25-year-old may be coming soon. According to information from the French side, AS Monaco are showing great interest in the striker, who is said to fit perfectly with the principality club’s requirements.

Embolo is silent on Gladbach’s future

Another Ligue 1 club, Olympique Lyon, tried to sign Embolo a few weeks ago, but “OL” are known to have secured the services of Alexandre Lacazette. Monaco, on the other hand, have “only” strengthened their offensive with Takumi Minamino. The Japanese moved to the south of France from Liverpool FC and is said to be one of at least two new pillars in the club’s attack.

Embolo himself has not commented on his future in recent weeks, but “footmercato” writes that the former Schalke player is aiming for a change of air and thus a departure from Gladbach. As a transfer, the portal brings a sum of ten to 15 million euros into play.

It is not known whether Borussia from Mönchengladbach would give the Swiss the go-ahead if he made a suitable offer.
