Two losses in three games for the Blue Sox

The Thetford Blue Sox had a chance to avenge their 12-0 loss suffered a week earlier against the Acton Vale Castors, but they lost 6-3 on Sunday at Desjardins Stadium. It was the Thetford team’s fifth defeat in its last seven games.

The visitors led 5-0 after three sets. “We had a difficult start. They hit the ball well. Their pitcher did well early in the game, however, we had some bad at-bats against him. We started very early in the count, but the more the game progressed, the more balls he threw. We can’t afford to do innings like that with a pitch and an out,” explained coach Renaud Desjardins.

Jonathan Paquet had a difficult match on the mound. “It was harder to find the momentum. I think it went all the way to the fifth run before I got my momentum back. »

A start that looked like his last in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. “I had the same feeling of not being able to finish my shots. These are details and adjustments to be made. »

The locals’ three runs were the result of a home run by Stéphane Pouliot in the fifth inning.

Split double program

On Friday, the Blue Sox split the honors in their doubleheader. In the first game of the day, they were handcuffed for six innings by pitcher Mathieu Adam and suffered a 7-3 loss to the Drummondville Brock. “It’s a loss that really hurts. We had a full lineup. I think the guys wanted to do too much. They saw the ball was too big and we took them lightly,” noted Renaud Desjardins.

It was a two-set story for the winners who scored three runs in the opening set and four more in the fifth following a costly error against Francis Michel. “It was a groundout to third base that would have been the third out and would have meant no run in that inning. The little extra mistake that has happened too often lately. It’s something that will have to be improved, ”admitted the coach. The losers scored their three runs on their last turn at bat.

On the night in Sherbrooke, the Blue Sox rallied from a 6-2 lead with eight runs in the sixth inning to defeat the Expos 13-7 to end a three-game losing streak. “We were eager to get back to winning ways and it feels good. We made mistakes defensively in the first innings which still hurt us, but we pulled ourselves together at bat,” commented Renaud Desjardins.

Stéphane Pouliot opened hostilities with a home run in first gear. The locals responded with four runs in their turn at bat and two more in the next round. Michel Simard had a difficult start before recovering. “In the first round, there was the mistake at the start and after that the double of Jutras (Christophe). It was a slippery which remained suspended. The issue was that I was behind in the count the whole game and had trouble getting ahead of the batters, which didn’t really help me. »

The Sox got going in the fifth. “We had good presences and when we were able to put it 6-2, we saw that there was something that was being created at bat. The guys had good appearances, they were getting off on good shots and it paid off,” explained the winning gunner.

Jean-Michel Acquin continued his excellent work on offense with three hits in four at bats.

The Blue Sox will resume action Thursday with a stop in Victoriaville to face the Cactus. They will be back at home on Sunday to host the Montreal Jets at 6 p.m.
