Twitter users mock Riga FC after the federation’s flag was used on social media during the team’s trip to Derry

Latvian football team Riga FC have been mocked by Twitter users after they deleted a social media post featuring the federation’s flag promoting their trip to Northern Ireland.

The club, which was founded in 2014, posted a video of their journey from Riga Airport to Dublin before they traveled via coach to Northern Ireland ahead of their UEFA Europa League qualifier against hosts Derry City.

In the explainer videos, she also includes the location when the team arrived in a town called Londonderry.

In the attached post on social networks, the Latvian club added a caption to the video “Journey to Northern Ireland” and included a trade union flag emoticon, also marking the city of Derry.

However, the North West club responded below it by writing ‘Welcome to Ireland’ and including the Irish tricolor emoji.

In the second post, Riga FC reposted the original video and included the three colors in their posts.

They then deleted that post too, prompting Derry City FC’s Twitter account to write: “Oh, that’s gone too.”

The quick edit prompted some on Twitter to poke fun at the hilarious incident.

One user simply joked, “That was fast.”

The two teams face off at Ryan McBride’s Brandywell on Thursday, with more than 3,000 expected for the crucial game.

Hundreds of Derry City fans will also travel to Riga next week for the second leg of the match.
