Try baseball at the Devils hobby tournament

German-French baseball project “Baseball crosses borders”: Everyone can take part – registration recommended! AToday the TV St. Ingbert Devils are hosting a hobby baseball tournament. The start is at 11 a.m. in the Ballpark Wallerfeld in St. Ingbert with an introduction to the rules. After that, the first games will take place. All participants are guaranteed several games in the form of a tournament. Surprising, but true, in such hobby tournaments, the participants very quickly succeed in playing the supposedly complicated baseball sport…

Anyone who has never played baseball actively or has not played for a long time can register (by email to [email protected]). It is possible to register entire teams or individuals. The tournament is free. It is advisable to come earlier, as registration has to take place at the beginning. Participants should only bring sportswear. The material, referees and coaches are provided by the Devils.

This hobby tournament is a special one, as department head Mark Unbehend emphasizes: “We placed the tournament within the framework of our Franco-German project. With this we want to emphasize the unifying effect that the sport of baseball has.”. The Devils hope for as many participants from France as possible.

Baseball crosses borders” is the name of the German-French project that the Devils have been running since May throughout the summer in the participating cities of Sarreguemines and St. Ingbert. A weekly baseball meet-up in Sarreguemines, two cultural events on “Baseball & Industrial History” in both cities and now the hobby tournament in St. Ingbert are the highlights of this project, which has connected many people on both sides of the border through the sport and still will connect. The project is supported by the Franco-German Citizens’ Fund.

Hobby tournaments have a long tradition with the Devils of TV St. Ingbert. The first took place in the mid-1990s. The philosophy of the hobby tournaments is quickly described and fits perfectly with the unifying idea of ”Baseball crosses borders”: The tournaments focus on fun and primarily beginners of all ages are allowed to take part. “We had to slow down one or the other participant if winning was too much of a goal. Hobby tournaments should be fun for everyone. The result is irrelevant.”reports Unbehend.
