Tour de France: the 19th stage briefly interrupted due to a demonstration on the road

This is the second time that a stage has been interrupted on this Tour de France. 157 km from the finish of the 19th stage, several environmental activists got in the way of the road taken by the riders between Castelnau-Magnoac and Cahors. After a few minutes of break, the race was able to resume, maintaining the gaps between the riders.

During the 10th stage already, a similar action had stopped the peloton for 12 minutes. The activists behind these actions support the civil resistance movement Last Renovation. Recently, the latter multiplies the punch actions. An activist, for example, tied herself to the net during the Roland-Garros semi-final.

“There to make the government react”

At the beginning of July, other supporters of Last Renovation had blocked the Paris ring road. “These citizens assume the risks of their action because today the greatest risk is the inaction of the government which condemns the French to suffer extreme heat waves, mass starvation and massacres. There is no more time to wait,” declared the movement on its Twitter account, in reaction to the interruption of the 19th stage.

“They are there to make the government and its deputies react and to say that society will not give up in the face of death and the most absolute evil” added Dernier Rénovation. Last Sunday, environmental activists tried to block the stage, but the race was not finally interrupted.
