Tour de France: Interview with cycling legend Bernard Hinault – Sport

Five-time winner Bernard Hinault is still the last local hero to win the Tour de France. A conversation about his despair of his compatriots, his admiration for favorite Pogacar – and the course this year.

Bernard Hinault is one of the most successful cyclists in the 119-year history of the Tour de France. The Breton – nicknamed “the badger” – won the race five times between 1978 and 1985. Only Lance Armstrong triumphed more often, but lost his seven victories again because of doping. Hinault was also an extremely successful professional cyclist off the tour. After his active career, he worked for the tour organizer ASO for a long time. Now he is 67 and follows the race only as a privateer.
