Gstaad – Dominic Thiem meets number 7 seeded Frenchman Hugo Gaston in the first round on his return to Gstaad, where he won the title in 2015. Thiem won the only duel with Gaston 2020 in the round of 16 of the French Open, also on sand, in five sets. Gaston is currently number 58 in the ranking. In the event of a win, Thiem will play against Federico Delbonis (ARG) or Mikael Ymer (SWE).
