They kick off the 30th Junior Pan American Badminton Championship

SANTO DOMINGO.- The teams from the United States, Brazil and Peru kicked off the Thirtieth Junior Pan American Badminton Championship in style, which opened this Thursday and will conclude on July 22 at the facilities of the Parque del Este Table Tennis Pavilion, sponsored by of the Ministries of Tourism, Sports and the Dominican Olympic Committee.

At the beginning of the first stage, which is being played by teams, of the tournament organized by the Dominican Badminton Federation (Fedobad) in group A, the Americans won 5-0 over their counterpart from Mexico, while in the group B the Brazilians comfortably won (5-0) against El Salvador, as did the Peruvians against the Dominican Republic team.

During the opening ceremony, the president of the Pan American Badminton Confederation, Jamaican Vishu Tolan, thanked Fedobad for staging the event.

“For us it is more than an honor and a great satisfaction that the Dominican Republic is serving as the venue for this great commitment, in which our main youth players are participating,” said Tolan, who at the same time congratulated the state entities for support the event.

While the Vice Minister of Promotion and Development of the Ministry of Tourism, Tammy Reynoso, representing David Collado, stated that said portfolio is always willing to collaborate with activities that represent healthy fun.

On his side, the president of the Dominican Olympic Committee, Antonio Acosta, assured that without the support of the Government it would be very difficult to mount international competitions like this, and said that these types of tournaments have great value for the development of athletes in general sense.

The director of the Metropolitan Office of Bus Services (OMSA), Radhamés González, indicated that one of his main priorities has been to believe in sport, pointing out that in this way good habits can be encouraged in the youngest.

Generoso Castillo, general director of the tournament, recalled that the event has a cultural and sports tourism component, since the more than 350 visiting athletes from some 17 countries will be staying in hotels in the Colonial Zone and will enjoy a special program organized by the Ministry Tourism and Culture, in the historic center of the city.

Among the personalities attending the opening ceremony were the federated, William Ozuna, of weights, and Miguel Hernández, of field hockey.

The fair organized by the Dominican Badminton Federation with the endorsement of the Pan American Confederation of this sport will be competed in the sub-13, sub-15, sub-17, sub-19 and team categories.

Among the participating athletes is the American Ryan Ma, current number 85 in the badminton world ranking, as well as the main junior rackets in the country, the Dominicans Kael Sosa, Michelle Guzmán, Ronelkis Reyes, Katherine Carrasco, Yarianna Torres and José Pichardo.

The contest also has the collaboration of Claro, Gatorade and Bepensa with their brands Coca Cola and Dasani.
