CSU boss Markus Söder currently sees no chance of a chancellor candidacy in three years for himself and the CSU. “There are so many others. I know that Daniel Günther will certainly think about it, Hendrik Wüst and many others,” said Söder about the prime ministers of Schleswig-Holstein and North Rhine-Westphalia. “There are such great people there – the CSU is out of the question anyway.”
Before the federal elections last year, Söder had long been considered a promising candidate for chancellor by the CDU and CSU. After lengthy internal quarrels, the CSU chairman finally had to admit defeat to the then CDU leader and NRW Prime Minister Armin Laschet – who then lost the race for the chancellorship. (dpa)
