The NBA will not impose a vaccination mandate for the 2022-23 academic year

The NBA will return vaccination requirements to local and state authorities for the 2022-23 season. As happened last season, the League will not issue a mandate forcing players and other members of the franchises to get vaccinated, but will leave this in the hands of the rules of the different governments; informs Yahoo Sports.

This decision gives players total freedom – as has already been done – to choose whether they are inoculated against the coronavirus or not. Afterwards, it will be local guidelines that determine each case, either with bans like the one Kyrie Irving suffered or with stricter tests and restrictions elsewhere.

What still remains to be determined, and this will depend on the NBA, is the periodic testing of the unvaccinated, a point that must be discussed with the Players’ Union before it becomes a fact.

Going back to state regulations for the unvaccinated, both New York and California have waived vaccination requirements to attend major events, so the unvaccinated will have no problem playing here. The case of Canada is different, since the vaccine is still required to enter the country. Thus, those who have preferred not to receive the relevant dose of the drug will not be able to play against the Raptors in Toronto, this being the case that Matisse Thybulle experienced last year, who missed three playoff games against the Canadians.
