The National Futsal League insists on professionalization

The National Futsal League (LNFS) resist. Stripped of the organization of elite competitions in Spanish futsal when the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) decided to stop giving up its management, its function was quite reduced, but even with the departure of some clubs, today it continues to bring together to a good part of the professional teams.

The association held its General Assembly this Thursday in Madrid to review and put an end to the 2021-22 financial year, in addition to approving the economic distribution derived from the income obtained from the exploitation and commercialization of audiovisual rights. A section that has reported to the associated clubs a total of 1,377,000 euros, of which €105,000 will be for each of the First Division clubs and €37,000 for the Second Division.

The president of the LNFS, Javier Lozano, highlighted that the 2021/2022 season has closed with a historic number of broadcasts with 417 live matches between GOL, LaLigaSportsTV and the regional and local networks, exceeding by 120 matches those broadcast with respect to the previous season. A milestone that has been accompanied by the growth of the association in social networks, in whose official profiles it already has more than a million followers.

Although the economic issue is important, the LNFS’s insistence on request that futsal be considered as a professional sport.

In this sense, all the clubs voted unanimously to continue advancing in the request for the Professional League qualification for the First Division before the Higher Sports Council (CSD), and agreed to request a meeting with its president, José Manuel Franco , to deal with such professionalization.

The CSD declares the ASOBAL League professional

Precisely this Thursday, the Board of Directors of the Higher Sports Council (CSD) has approved this Thursday the professionalization of the ASOBAL Handball League, by qualifying its competitions as official professional and state level.

With this decision by the governing body of the CSD, ASOBAL becomes the first professional handball league in Spain and the fifth national professional league, after LaLiga Santander and SmartBank for football, the Endesa Basketball League and the recent Women’s Professional Football League .

The professionalization of ASOBAL from next season comes after all its clubs unanimously approved the new status of the category on June 9 in an extraordinary general assembly, with the approval of the CSD.

Founded in 1958 with the name of División de Honor -a name that was changed in 1990 to the current one-, the ASOBAL League is currently made up of sixteen teams.

“This is a new milestone for our sport. Professionalization will strengthen the economy of the clubs, having a positive impact on the preparation of the players, and that will allow us to obtain better results in competitions, including international ones”, explained the Secretary of State for Sport, José María Franco.
