“Today, we are officially 102 members, including a large proportion of young people. This is less than before the Covid, where we went up to 140 members”. Bérenger Hébert has been the president of the BAC since the last general assembly, at the end of June, “and a member since my return to Cantal, four years ago”.
The vice-president, Stéphanie Mourgues, has been a member for “twelve or thirteen years”. Thanks to them, and a few other members, the BAC remains open during the summer, and allows regulars to find themselves in an atmosphere of frank camaraderie.
It’s simple, for Discovery Wednesday we lend all the equipment, and people come to discover badminton and learn to play. It’s free, and at the end, we share the glass of friendship.
“We are open to leisure and competition. We have several teams engaged in interclubs, and a mixed team which is in Regional 3 this year. The first day will take place in Massiac, on October 9, ”explains the president. The club also organizes two tournaments a year: “A young and veteran tournament in November, and our big tournament in March, the Truffade Tournament”, which is very successful every year.

What qualities to play badminton? “You have to be tough and responsive. It’s a sport of speed. But the big advantage is that you can progress very quickly and at any age”.
Evenings for conviviality
The club also likes to organize moments of relaxation, where play and conviviality are essential: “We are going to organize a Halloween party, an ugly sweater party, another with our partner. And also have a “salad tournament”, where everyone plays, each in turn… And at the beginning of September, we will take part in Vital Sport, in the Decathlon car park. It’s a bit like a forum for sports associations, ”explains Stéphanie Mourgues. The amount of the annual subscription has not changed: it is €85 “all inclusive” for adults, and €75 for those under 18.

At the Vidalie gymnasium, adults: Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.; young people: Tuesday, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday (mini bat, 7-12 years old), from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
