The Americans dominated the 100 at the World Athletics Championships, favorite Kerley won

The Americans took half of the final, which was missing surprise Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs from Tokyo, who did not play in the semifinals due to injury. The podium finish ended up being the same as the U.S. Championships held at Hayward Field in Eugene in late June. This year’s table leader Kerley pushed his way to victory, taking world gold after last year’s Olympic silver. It is his second medal from the World Championships, in 2019 he won bronze as a quarterback. Bracy and Bromell were fighting for silver just behind him, two thousandths of a second decided in favor of the former.

Only the defending champion Christian Coleman finished without a medal from the American quartet, who took sixth place in a time of 10.01. His team mates ensured a success that no other country achieved at the World Cup. “I said we could do it, and we did it,” a victorious Kerley said in an on-field interview.

The Americans reigned supreme in sprinting at the World Championships when Carl Lewis was winning. Before Tokyo 1991, they occupied the entire podium in Helsinki 1983. “Every one of us wanted the gold. But I’m very happy that we got everything here at home in Oregon,” said Bromell, who won bronze today.

The Chinese Wang Jianan surprisingly triumphed in the distance, who improved from 803 to 836 centimeters in the final series and moved from fifth place to the top. The favorites, including the Olympic champion Miltiadis Tentoglu, could no longer answer that. The Greek Tentoglu took second place with 832 centimeters. Swiss all-rounder Simon Ehammer (816), who is the leader of this year’s tables, finished third.

Twenty-five-year-old Wang Jianan was rejoicing in his life’s success. Seven years ago, he won bronze at the home World Championships in Beijing, but since then he hasn’t won a major medal. In Eugene, he followed up on the junior world title, which he won here in 2014.

In the shot put, the home team’s Chase Ealy won the first world gold for the United States of America in the women’s category of this discipline with her first attempt of 20.49 meters. The two-time world champion and Olympic champion Kung Li-jiao from China chased her in vain, she only came within ten centimeters. Dutch Jessica Schilderová secured the bronze with a national record of 19.77.
