The 26th Tabarca Vela Diputación de Alicante was presented with great expectations

The presentation of the 26th Tabarca Vela Diputación de Alicante has meant the official starting signal for this year’s edition, which will take place from Friday the 8th to Sunday the 10th of July.

The event was attended by José Mancebo, director of the Costa Blanca Tourist Board; Antonio Peral, Councilor for the Presidency of the Alicante City Council; Miguel López, president of the Real Club de Regatas de Alicante; Miguel Ángel Sánchez, representative of the Association of Journalists of the Province of Alicante and Evaristo Cabanell, technical manager of the regatta.

Miguel Lopez welcomed “to our club for the presentation of our most outstanding regatta and that is included in the national calendar and that after two complicated years, we have managed to give it a new impetus” and wanted to stand out above all “Thanks to the sponsors, both public and private, since without them it would be impossible to celebrate” . The president was pleased that “The number of participants is on the rise, we are recovering the amount and level of previous years” and wanted to emphasize that “Tabarca Vela, through actions in the field of sustainability, will save 1.34 tons of CO2 and more than 5,000 plastic containers.”

Evaristo Cabanell made a technical review of the Tabarca Vela: “We have had a significant increase such as the Estrella Damm, winner on several occasions of the Copa del Rey Mapfre and other winning boats a few days ago in the Trofeo de la Reina such as Maverta-Defcom Seguridad, Tanit 4-Medilevel and Dorsia Covirán who arrive in Alicante after winning in Valencia just two days ago”. Cabanell explained how the planned routes would be depending on the weather conditions and announced the different fleets: ORC Lucas Fox; Mapfre and J80 Mercedes-Benz promotion. The 26th Tabarca Vela Diputación de Alicante has been included as the second regatta of the RFEV Iberdrola Women’s Sailing Circuit for the J80 class.

The Diputación de Alicante, from its different departments, supports the organization of this regatta, which is a tourist attraction in our city, putting our province on the map as one of the unavoidable events for Sports Tourism in the country. José Mancebo, director of the Costa Blanca Tourist Board, thanked the RCR Alicante for organizing Tabarca Vela: “A sporting milestone, consolidated, and for all of us it is a pleasure, it is a club that looks to the destination, a way of exposing the values ​​associated with the practice of sport and a healthy life. Sports activity is essential and that is why we get involved as Alicante Provincial Council and it is undoubtedly a great promotion for sport and the destination”.

The deputy mayor, Mari Carmen Sánchez, has highlighted that added the person also responsible for the Municipal Tourist Board.

This year they wanted to involve the city of Alicante even more. Being the protagonist more than ever of the gastronomy of the event, in addition to one of the emblems of the city, the Castle of Santa Bárbara, will host the shipowners’ dinner next Friday night. This has been possible thanks to the support of the Alicante City Council, one of the main actors in the regatta. The presence of Councilor for the Presidency Antonio Peral who commented that “It is one of the deans, a reference for its own identity and the attractiveness of something as unique as going around one of the smallest inhabited islands in Spain, such as Tabarca” and added that “We are going to value many elements of our city such as the Santa Bárbara Castle and that the participants will be able to enjoy their surroundings” .

Awards a la Prensa Náutica

One of the great novelties of the competition is the first edition of the Tabarca Vela Awards to the Nautical Press. An initiative that has been carried out jointly with the Association of Journalists of the Province of Alicante, its head of sports, Miguel Ángel Sánchez, sports representative of the Association of Journalists of the Province of Alicante has announced the jury’s decision.

In this first Tabarca Vela edition of the Nautical Press, the prizes for recognition of nautical sports journalists have gone to ABC de la Náutica at the national level and will be collected by its director Pedro Sardina and at the local level by Carmen Lizán, head of the Extra section. and editor of the daily Information, who will be given a Ninot by master Juan Manuel Varo.

The Tabarca Vela has the support of the Diputación de Alicante who, for many years, has been the official sponsor of the event and from which the regatta receives the name: Tabarca Vela Diputación de Alicante.
