Tennis Dream Team. Djokovic will play at the Laver Cup alongside Nadal, Federer and Murray

“It’s the only competition where you can play in a team with people you normally compete against. And to join Rafa, Roger and Andy, three of my greatest rivals of all time, it will be a truly unique moment in the history of our sport,” said Djokovic in the statement.

Nadal, Djokovic, Federer and Murray have dominated world tennis for the past two decades. They shared 66 Grand Slam titles between them. The record holder is Nadal with 22 trophies, Djokovic has one less after this year’s Wimbledon triumph, Federer has 20 titles and Murray has three.

The Laver Cup was played for the first time in 2017 in Prague. All four years so far, Europe has won over the world selection. So far, Djokovic has only competed in the second year in 2018. The fifth showdown with the world selection will take place this year from September 23 to 25 in London.

“I don’t think I could have ever imagined having these four icons of our sport together on one team,” Borg said. “Every year our goal is to win. With Rafa, Roger, Andy and Novak in the team – I like our prospects,” he added.

World selection captain John McEnroe has nominated three tennis players so far. Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime, American Taylor Fritz and Diego Schwartzman from Argentina will play.
