It took a few days for Shaquille O’Neal to respond to Stephen Curry’s statements in which he assured that the 2017 Warriors would beat the 2001 Lakers in a playoff series.
And it is that the historic former center does not believe that some version of Golden State would have beaten the Los Angeles dynasty that he himself led at the beginning of 2000.
“If that was the case, I’d kick their ass. In fact, if they didn’t double-team me, I’d give them 60 points and no free throws,” Shaquille O’Neal said on his podcast.
The former luminary of the Orlando Magic, Lakers and Miami Heat, among others, became the Most Valuable Player of the NBA Finals in 2000, as well as in 2001 and 2002, having Kobe Bryant as a squire within the quintet trained by Phil Jackson.
“We feel like we could win. I don’t know who among us would stop Kobe (Bryant) and Shaq (O’Neal), but I also don’t know who would have stopped Klay (Thompson), Kevin (Durant) and me. And three is better than two,” Stephen Curry argued earlier in the week on @theScore, when asked if the 2017 Warriors would win a series from the 2001 Lakers.
It is worth remembering that with Stephen Curry, Durant and Thompson, the Golden State Warriors won the rings in 2017 and 2018, which is why the star point guard ventured to participate in the curious debate against Shaquille O’Neal’s Los Angeles Lakers.
