The third day of the Basketball Summer League is already being played in Tomelloso, happily recovered after three years without being able to be held due to the pandemic. Seven teams compete in a league that will have two phases. First, a seven-day one-round league will be played and then the crosses came to decide the final positions.
The first and second classified will compete in the final, the third and fourth will fight for bronze in the consolation final and the last three classified will compete in a triangle. The matches are played on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the San José pavilion. One game is played on Tuesday and two on Thursday, resting one team each week. The matches are made up of four quarters of 12 minutes to the clock. Despite the high temperatures, the players give themselves to the maximum and are seeing very good matches.
Yesterday we witnessed a comfortable victory for Los Simpaticos, the team that is emerging as the top favorite for the championship. They beat Money Makers 72-38, a team made up of players from Tomelloso and Argamasilla de Alba. The championship is very intergenerational, with veteran players, youngsters just starting out, federated players who want to fine-tune their set-up, in short, a wide range of ages and levels, but above all, a lot of enthusiasm. For each team only a maximum of three federates are allowed. The rest of the teams with CB ZA, Don Niño, Pollos, Santineta (Socuéllamos) and Pick and Roll Centro Tractor.
The person in charge of organizing the tournament, Daniel Bonillo, declared to La Voz de Tomelloso that the championship is developing very well. “We have had to come up with this competition system because we started a little later and we no longer had dates available. We will play the final matches in August, on the 22nd the triangular one and on the 23rd the third and fourth place and the final”. Bonillo highlights the desire of the players “after three years without celebrating this championship and with the norm of the federated players we try to balance the level of the teams. Nice are the favourites, but we must not forget that Avebas was the last champion, we will see what happens”.
