Schwarber leads Phillies rout of Braves 14-4 | Sports

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Kyle Schwarber finished the month with another home run, Darick Hall homered twice and the Philadelphia Phillies avoided a three-game series sweep by beating the Atlanta Braves 14-4 on Thursday.

Rhys Hoskins and Nick Castellanos also homered for the Phillies, who had their most runs of the season without star Bryce Harper for the fourth straight game due to left thumb surgery.

Adam Duvall and Michael Harris II homered for the Braves, who finished June 21-6 to match the most wins in a calendar month since the team moved from Milwaukee in 1966.

Schwarber hit a three-run shot in the third inning to reach 12 homers in June and 23 for the season. His shot to right field was his 47th home run in 458 career at-bats for him during June. His average of one home run per 9.74 at-bats through June is the best in major league history among players with at least 400 at-bats, surpassing Babe Ruth’s 10.63 at-bats per homer.

Aaron Nola (5-5) allowed four runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts and one walk in seven innings. In his last five starts, the right-hander is 2-0 with a 1.70 ERA and 38 strikeouts for just four walks in 37 innings.

The Phillies broke away with seven runs and six hits in the second against Ian Anderson (6-5).
