Schmöllner Judoka in a pack of five for the Central German Championship
pouting 23 clubs with 180 athletes traveled to the Thuringian state individual championships in the age groups U15 and U21 in Nordhausen. Athletes from the Schmölln police sports club were also there. Alexa Pruß confidently won her first fight against the higher ranked participant. In the fight for 3rd place, she also showed good approaches, but had to admit defeat due to carelessness and thus took 5th place. Leonie Domke was happy about gold. Kathleen Schöne played two games, which she unfortunately lost and thus achieved 7th place.

The older Sprottestadt athletes built on the results. Leon Jungmann won his first fight. In the further course he showed good approaches, but could not convince the judges and so he was ranked 5th in the end. Svenja Besoke fought with Kati Schöne in the same weight class. Svenja tried to apply her techniques and score points, which her opponents unfortunately knew how to prevent. Ultimately, after four fights, Svenja was denied a place on the podium – also for her 7th place. Kati used her tactically clever standing and ground techniques. With three fights won, she secured bronze. Emily Jungmann, Verena Erler and Matthis Köhler each had to play three games. They did this with varying degrees of success – silver was the reward.
All in all, the trainers were very satisfied with the performances shown, especially in view of the tropical temperatures on this competition weekend. The Knopfstadt medal winners have thus qualified for the Central German Championships. While the AK U15 qualifiers will compete in Rudolstadt in two weeks, the U21 judokas will not be challenged until mid-September in Halle an der Saale.
