RWE: Four goals in the XXL test between Essen and Braunschweig

Rot-Weiss Essen ended its training camp in Wesendorf with a draw against Eintracht Braunschweig. In the XXL test, RWE parted ways with the second division promoted team by a score of 2:2.

That gives confidence for the upcoming season in the 3rd division: Red and white food defied second division promoters Eintracht Braunschweig a 2-2 draw on Saturday. Over four times 30 minutes, RWE showed a great performance over long stretches, which should make you want more. Luca Dürholtz (34th) and Isaiah Young (85th) scored the goals for coach Christoph Dabrowski’s team. Fabio Kaufmann (95th) and Lione Lauberbach (102nd) were successful for Braunschweig.

The 1700 fans in Schöningen saw a good first 30 minutes – from RWE. The red-whites were always dangerous, especially on the left side, on which Oguzhan Kefkir played. In the 30th minute, Cedric Harenbrock made it 1-0 after a Kefkir cross. But Eintracht’s Robin Krauße saved goalkeeper Jasmin Fejzic and prevented the 0:1.

In the second 30 minutes, RWE quickly took the lead. It was Luca Dürholtz (34th) who curled the ball into the corner after a fine Kefkir preparatory work. The Esseners continued to play courageously, but there were no great chances. On the other side, the Braunschweig team had a good chance of getting a shot at Jakob Golz, who was safe, but it actually only resulted in tickets. What remains to be said: The eleven, who were allowed to play for 60 minutes, were the better team against the second division promoted from Braunschweig and also skillfully kept Eintracht away from the danger zone.

Anyone who had thought that Eintracht would prevail against Essen with their supposedly better team in the second 60 minutes was disappointed from Braunschweig’s point of view. After a quiet first 25 minutes in the third quarter, RWE turned on the turbo in the person of Isaiah Young, who dribbled around three men and shot the ball into the far corner – 2:0 RWE (85th).

Previously, Yannick Langesberg (80th) had prevented Emmanuel Pherai from making it 1-1, who only had to push the ball in, with a monster save.

A streaker, a fan of FC Basel, who was visiting with friends due to the existing fan friendship with Braunschweig, caused a little excitement after 74 minutes. He had a t-shirt wrapped around his neck, otherwise completely undressed. In a 120-minute (!) XXL test game like this, you have to appreciate the little things…

RWE convinces in the test against Braunschweig

Eintracht woke up in the last 30 minutes. Coach Michael Schiele must have made an announcement to the players. Suddenly you saw a different unity than in the 90 minutes before. But despite the constant pressure, it was “only” enough for Lower Saxony to make a 2-2 draw with Kaufmann (95′) and Lauberbach (102′). Björn Rother (107th) had the winning goal on his head for RWE after a corner. But Eintracht could still have won. In the 110th minute, two players from Braunschweig took the ball away just before the RWE goal – a slapstick insert, lucky for Essen. It remained a 2:2 draw.

What is clear is that RWE put in a strong performance both defensively and offensively – and that after six intensive, tough training camp units in Wesendorf. On Sunday morning, with the sense of achievement against the second division team in the luggage, we head back towards the Ruhr area.
