Puebla for the poblanos. It was not about a title in the Angelopolis Youth National Tennis Tournament; yes of three and a runner-up.
The state’s tennis players ruled at home in Saturday’s finals and in the queen classes of the event, the 18-year-old singles, in both branches. In addition, the state climbed to the top of the podium in class 10 within the men to close a week where the best 700 athletes of the specialty gathered at the brand new Angelopolis Tennis Center.
The names of Sofía Canto, Fernando Alvarado and Íker Barronuevo were proclaimed sovereign and at home.
Canto did it in the women’s 18-year-old final, where she defeated the number one seed Viviana Gómez.
The one from the State of Mexico, favorite for her position in the ranking for this tournament, barely snatched a set from the woman from Puebla. But the local ended up taking all the honors after three sets 6-0, 1-6 and 6-3.
“Since I found out that the tournament was being held in Puebla, I set myself the goal of winning it and here I am,” said the national champion just after the final.
“The key was patience, working on the points, which I didn’t do in the second set. But later I looked for the solution and the result accompanied my fortune, “she concluded.
The final of the poblanos
In the championship game between Fernando Alvarado and Luka Romano, the former lifted the crown after Romano’s second-set retirement. Until before that, Fernando had dominated the first set 6-2 and was in control in the second 3-1.
Romano must have shown the peace flag after presenting two ailments in the abdomen area, including requiring a medical break between sets. But in the end it was impossible for him to recover and he ended up taking care of his health instead of aggravating his state or condition.

Barronuevo shines
First thing in the morning, at the Puebla Tennis Center, Íker Barronuevo beat Karim Balbuena from the State of Mexico to stay with the center in the 10-year category.
The Angelopolitan shone in a couple of sets, where he only gave up one game, to anoint himself as the monarch of the event played during the last week at home.
