PSG prepares its sweep by putting pressure on its undesirables

Once again this season, Paris Saint-Germain have a plethora of squads, which have expanded with the arrival of the Portuguese Vitinha and the native of the region Nordi Mukiele.

The club of the capital must reduce fat, because the stars accumulate, and the disappointed will be many if the workforce remains so provided. In addition, with the World Cup in Qatar in sight, a number of international players in need of playing time have an interest in finding a base by the end of the summer transfer window.

Christophe Galtier and his staff have already identified the undesirables for the coming season: we find there among others Georginio Wijnaldum, Julian Draxler, Andrew Herrera, Thilo Kehrer, Rafinhaor Laywin Kurzawa.

The coach already explained it when he arrived in the capital: “I think the staff should be reduced. You can’t have too many players who don’t play because they’re unhappy. We gotta find the right squad size“.

PSG is forced to fine-tune the final settings for the coming year, with or without the presence of these undesirables. To make them understand that the club will not count on them, the technical staff has a ready-made solution: unwanted players train separately, in another session without the rest of the professional group.
Some of these players have thus been seen in a training session alongside young Parisian shooters, who are Edward Michut, Ismaël Gharbi, Djeidi Gassama or Lucas Lavallee.

A double session is therefore organized daily in Saint-Germain-en-Laye. The group of players who will participate in the PSG season trains from 8:30 a.m. every morning, while the undesirables train in the afternoon, according to information from L’Equipe.

This practice would not be legal during the season, but it is authorized during the transfer window. Article 507 of the French LFP charter states that from July 1 to September 1, clubs can manage their squads as they see fit.

The undesirable group thus has access to the same equipment and facilities as the morning group, but not necessarily the same coach. Until September 1, PSG is not required to provide a qualified coach. Régis Beunardeaua specific under-19 coach, takes care of the “loft” of players not wanted by the staff.

PSG is sometimes forced to use these methods to encourage some of its players to jump ship. A few are tempted to stay in the City of Light, unwilling to part with their comfortable salaries, with or without playing time.

This is not the case for all the undesirables: Wijnaldum and Draxler, in particular, can claim participation in the World Cup in Qatar with their respective selections, and are working to find a way out. The first is for example cited on the side of AS Roma. The others have just as much interest in looking, if they don’t want to spend the season in the closet.
