Ons Jabeur is honored in Tunisia

Ons Jabeur is number five in the world of women’s tennis, but number one in her city, Tunisia. Although she lost the Wimbledon final against Yelena Rybakina in three sets, 3-6, 6-2 and 6-2, the tennis player was received this Friday in the African city as she is already known there, with her new nickname, the Minister of happiness, for being the first Arab and African to play a Grand Slam final.

Since the tennis player arrived at her house on Wednesday, the Tunisian inhabitants have acclaimed their idol. That same day many of them went to receive her and chant her at the airport. A day later, she was received by the president of the city, Kais Said, as he granted her the National Order of Merit at the Cartago Palace.

And this Friday the 15th has been the reception at the Municipal Theater, full of posters with his photo and a slogan “Made un Tunisia”. The tennis player, who attended with her coach Issam Jellali and her physical trainer and husband, Karim Kammoun, once again took a mass bath in her city and declared that “I am proud to be Tunisian.”

Although she has not yet won any Grand Slam, she has been close to achieving it, it does not mean that the tennis player is having a great season, but she is clear about what her biggest trophy is, “The love of the Tunisians is more important than all the titles in the world, God willing this is the beginning of many other achievements”.

There are still many tournaments for the Tunisian to win this season, among the most important the US Open and the WTA Finals, but the tennis player is clear about her goal, stating that “I hope I can achieve my dream that is not mine but of all Tunisians, to be number one and honor Tunisia and win Roland Garros”.
