Tuesday was a bad day for two Olaine football teams. The women of FK “Olaine” experienced a loss in an important match of the Women’s Football League in the fight for medals, but the streak of seven unbeaten games was broken by the men’s team of FK “Olaine” / FK “Union” in the Center group tournament of the third Latvian league.
FC “Olaine” football players hosted the “Metta” football school students on their field in a match in which the second and third place holders of the tournament table met each other. Marilda Cordeira de Lima put the home team in the lead with a beautiful shot in the 2nd minute, but the Riga team equalized 40 minutes later.
In the second half, the score remained tied until the fourth minute of the compensation time, when after a defensive error by the home team, the “Metta” team player managed to break out alone against the “Olaines” goalkeeper and send the ball into the goal – a painful loss for the Olaineites 1:2.
After this failure, FK “Olaine” is four points behind FS “Metta” in the table (17 against 21). SFK “Rīga” footballers are far ahead (31 points), SK “Super Nova” RTU unit is in the fourth position (13 points) and Ķekava “Auda” is in the fifth position (9 points).
The players of FK “Olaine” / FK “Union”, the current leaders of the Center group of the Latvian third league, played an away game against the second team of the football club “Beitar” and experienced an unexpectedly heavy defeat 0:3.
In the table, Olaine’s team has fallen to second place, although in points they are not far behind the leaders FK “PPK/Betsafe” (20 points each). In fifth place are “Upesciema Warriors” (15 points), who on Wednesday will host sixth-placed Salaspils “Kengaroos” (6 points), while in sixth place are “ASK Kadaga” footballers (11 points).
