Nicolás Barrientos and Cristián Rodríguez dust off a 7-year data for Colombian tennis in ATP tournaments – Match Tennis

The doubles modality has been the most fruitful for Colombian tennis in recent years thanks to the rackets of Juan Sebastián Cabal and Robert Farah, champions of Wimbledon and the United States Open in 2019, results that catapulted them to the top of the world ranking in this specialty; however, this year they have gone blank and have been Nicholas Barrientos y Christian Rodriguez those that have appeared in the Challenger Circuit.

The titles in this class of tournaments have allowed them to enter the Top-100 of the specialty, aspiring to play tournaments on the ATP Circuit; Precisely, both will be in the game at the ATP 250 Los Cabos (Mexico) next week, being the first tournament of these characteristics in the last seven years in which two Colombian tennis players other than Cabal and Farah say they are present in the main draw.

Nicolás Barrientos forms a team with the Mexican Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela, with whom he has won five titles this year; for his part, Rodríguez will partner with the Ecuadorian Diego Hidalgohis partner in five of the six titles he has won this season.

The most recent occasion in which more than one Colombian tennis player other than Juan Sebastián Cabal and Robert Farah said they were present at an ATP Circuit tournament was at the ATP 250 Bogotá 2015, where they played Alexander Fails y Alexander Gonzalez, Eduardo Struvay y Juan Sebastian Gomezand his own Nicholas Barrientos along with the Dominican Víctor Estrella-Burgos.
