NFL: Richie Incognito and Jason McCourty retired

Richie Incognito is retiring after a career marked by controversy and top performances on the field. The offensive lineman made the announcement on Friday.

Incognito, 39, signed with the Raiders in 2019 and only played 14 games with them due to injuries.

“I like the Raiders organization, and Mr. [Mark] Davis means the world to me. That’s why, after four teams and 15 years, I’m retiring as a Raider. »

Incognito was selected in the third round by the St. Louis Rams in 2005 and also played for the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills. He earned the first of his four Pro Bowl selections with the Dolphins in 2012, but his involvement in a bullying scandal with fellow offensive lineman Jonathan Martin led Incognito to a suspension for half of the 2013 season.

He signed with the Bills in 2015 and appeared in three consecutive Pro Bowls before retiring after the 2017 season.

Jason McCourty retires after 13 seasons

Drafted in 2009 by the Tennessee Titans, with whom he played eight seasons, Jason McCourty went from the lowest level of the NFL to the highest level. He was part of the winless Cleveland Browns in 2017 but then won a Super Bowl ring the following season with the New England Patriots, while playing alongside his twin brother, Devin.

“These past 13 seasons have been one hell of a journey,” Jason McCourty said on Instagram. “When I reflect and look back at my career, I’ve far exceeded any expectations I set for myself in 2009 — and that’s what I’m most proud of when I look back at my career. »

McCourty made one of the greatest plays of Super Bowl LIII, sprinting through the end zone to break up a pass to a wide open Brandin Cooks. New England went on to defeat the Los Angeles Rams 13-3.

If the championship was special for McCourty, playing with his twin brother for three seasons (44 games, 33 starts) was just as special.

McCourty wore the colors of the Miami Dolphins in his final season in the NFL, in 2021.
