NFL in Germany: 3 million tickets could have been sold for the match in Munich

For the very first game in its history on German soil, the NFL was perhaps not expecting so much enthusiasm. According to Alexander Steinforth, head of NFL Germany, three million requests were processed last Tuesday when tickets for the Buccaneers-Seahawks game went on sale. This represents 40 times the capacity of the Allianz Arena in Munich, the venue of the meeting.

“We were able to anticipate it a bit due to the approximately 600,000 pre-registrations over the past few weeks,” Steinforth told German news outlet Ran. “At peak, however, there were around 800,000 people in the virtual queue at the same time.

“Ticketmaster told us after the fact that they could have sold about three million tickets. This level of demand – whether for sporting events or concerts – is typically only seen during the Super Bowl. Thus, this early sale for the NFL game in Germany once again exceeded all expectations. Unfortunately, we couldn’t do anything about the long virtual queues. Rather, it shows how much people were looking forward to this event.”

Steinforth added that the event is likely to go down as the biggest in terms of ticket requests Germany has seen in decades.
