NFL: Ben Roethlisberger disappointed with Steelers stadium name change

Now we have to add Ben Roethlisberger to the list of people who don’t like the new name of the Pittsburgh Steelers stadium.

The Steelers announced Monday that Heinz Field, which opened in 2001, will now be called Acrisure Stadium.

Roethlisberger, who played his 18 National Football League seasons with the Steelers before retiring in January, wrote on Twitter that was not a good decision.

Roethlisberger was a two-time Super Bowl winner and ranked fifth all-time in passing yards (64,088). He appeared in 124 regular season games at Heinz Field, maintaining a 93-21 record.

Guard Kevin Dotson and former offensive lineman Trai Essex also expressed their displeasure with the stadium’s new name on social media.

Heinz, headquartered in Pittsburgh, paid $57 million to secure the stadium’s naming rights for 20 years in 2001. The deal was later extended for a year in 2021.

The amount paid by Acrisure, a company working in the fields of finance and insurance, was not disclosed.
