A terrifying scene at a college basketball game prompted New Mexico forward Devon Williams to quit basketball.
Williams collided with a teammate during Sunday’s win against New Mexico State and collapsed to the ground. He was carried off the field on a stretcher several minutes later.

Williams was later diagnosed with spinal stenosis, a narrowing of the spinal canal, and was advised to stop playing basketball.
“(Williams) saw a specialist and advised him not to play. There was fear that he would be paralyzed ”, New Mexico coach Craig Neal told ESPN.com . “He said he was very lucky it didn’t happen against the state of New Mexico. He’s fine. He is walking smoothly. He will live a great life and be able to finish his degree and get a graduate degree.”
The Dallas native averaged 6.7 points in 22.6 minutes per game last season. He played 14 minutes in each of the Wolves’ first two games this season.
