New defense chief at Bayern? Pavard and Hernandez make claims

After the departures of David Alaba, Jerome Boateng and Niklas Süle, FC Bayern is looking for a new chief of defense. While Julian Nagelsmann is hoping for a new signing in the summer, Benjamin Pavard and Lucas Hernandez seem to have two FCB internal candidates with corresponding ambitions.

It’s an open secret that Julian Nagelsmann wasn’t really happy with his team’s defensive performance last season. Bayern have often shown themselves to be too vulnerable on the defensive. Fans, media and experts agree: FCB needs to make personnel improvements in the summer. Those responsible are on the lookout for a new central defender. Nagelsmann wants a communicative player who can take on a leadership role right away. However, the search is extremely difficult.

According to current media reports, Matthijs de Ligt is a candidate on the Isar. The 22-year-old would like to leave Juventus in the summer and is looking for a new sporting challenge. The problem: Juve demands between 70-80 million euros for the Dutchman. According to reports, Bayern have already asked in Turin. So far, however, there have been no concrete talks.

Salihamidzic wants Hernandez as the new defense chief

From a financial point of view, a transfer from de Ligt is very unlikely, as of today. As the “BILD” reports, sports director Hasan Salihamidzic has already found a new defense chief. Accordingly, the 45-year-old relies on an internal solution and would like to establish Lucas Hernandez as a new strong man in the Bayern defense. The Frenchman is considered Bayern’s most “aggressive” central defender, and Hernandez hasn’t really demonstrated his leadership skills yet.

According to “BILD”, Benjamin Pavard can also imagine taking on this role. The 26-year-old moves into the center of defense with the signing of Noussair Mazraoui and is ready to take on more responsibility. But Pavard is also not known for loudly leading one of his neighbors and front people.

Curious: according to reports, Nagelsmann does not trust Pavard or Hernandez to be Bayern’s new chief of defense. The 34-year-old is therefore counting on a new signing.
