Anete Namiķe/Līva Ābere

The fourth seeded Anete Namiķe/Līva Ēbere fought in the quarterfinals tonight, just like last Saturday. Brecht Peersma/Wise Beckhuis (#7) from the Netherlands faced off. Before the match, it was estimated that it could be the second best option.

At the beginning of the first set, Eber blocked to take a two-point advantage. The opponents reached 7:7, but ours answered with two points – 9:7. Ebere already served at 14:11. The opponents equalized (15:15), took the lead (16:17) and increased the lead (17:19), but the set ended with the Dutch woman’s run – 18:21.

→ → At the beginning of the second set, Piersma blocked (1:3), reached 2:5 and blocked again – 2:6. Namiķe took the defense and shot correctly (6:8), the opponents restored a bigger advantage (6:10), while Ebere made a run – 9:11. The Dutch increased the advantage (11:15), but the set ended with 17:21.

Namiķe/Ebere ranked fifth for the second week in a row.

Quarterfinal entry

Varvara Brailko/Deniela Konstantinova

Sixth seeded Varvara Brailko/Daniela Konstantinova fought in the first round of the “play-off” against Germany’s Leonia Kerzinger/Mélanie Paula (#15), who were actually listed as quite clear favorites. Paula was a teammate of Kristine Briedes in the “Pepperdine” team. Her origin is linked to several countries (Chile, Spain, USA and Germany), previously she was more associated as a Chilean, but she made her debut under the German flag a month ago.

At the beginning of the starting set, Latvian ladies were in the lead – 1:4. The opponents scored three points in a row (4:9) and increased the advantage (7:13, 8:15, 9:20), thus Brailko/Konstantinova experienced a loss – 10:21.

→ → In the second set, ours took the lead – 4:3. The Germans answered with two points, but Brailko/Konstantinova did the same – 7:6. The opponents scored three points in a row (8:11), while the representatives of Latvia got closer (11:12), and also achieved 14:13 and 17:14. The Germans drew to 18:17, while ours answered with two points (20:17). The opponents formed a series of four points (20:21), but the Latvian players took care of the last three points of the set – 23:21.

→ → In the third set, the score became 3:5, 4:7 and 5:9. Brailko/Konstantinova got closer (8:10), but the Germans regained a bigger advantage (9:13). Therefore, I had to compromise – 11:15.

Brailko/Konstantinova ranked ninth for the second week in a row.

We remind you that last week Warsaw “Future” took place, where Namiķe/Eber and Brailko/Konstantinova won the fifth and ninth place, respectively. Thanks to the mentioned success, Namiķe/Ēbere emerged as the vice-leaders of Latvian women’s beach volleyball for the first time.
