Nadal is already preparing his return

The abdominal problems that forced Rafa Nadal to withdraw from Wimbledon ahead of his semi-final against Kyrgios are now in the past. The Balearic, after a period of rest and vacations to solve his muscular rupture, He has returned to training with his mind set on the American tour, where the US Open dispute is marked in red from next August 29.

After confirming his withdrawal from Wimbledon on July 7, Nadal assured that he hoped to resume activity in “three or four weeks.” The times are over, and the Rafa Nadal Academy has published a photo of the winner of 22 Grand Slams training in its facilities under the watchful eye of numerous members of the academy. Nadal’s most immediate plans are to continue preparing to recover the rhythm, and His intention is to compete again in the Masters 1,000 in Montreal, which will be held from August 7 to 14. The Spaniard does not play in this event, which he has won five times, since 2019 (the year he won, as well as in 2018). Eugene Lapierre, director of the Canadian tournament, confirmed that “Nadal wants to come to Montreal, he has reserved a room at the hotel and we have sent him tournament balls to train.”

If everything goes according to plan and there are no incidents along the way, Montreal would be the only tournament Rafa would play before the US Open. He would therefore skip the Cincinnati Masters 1,000, in which he has not participated since 2017. Despite appearing on the entry list for this event, which will take place from August 14 to 21, Nadal commented in his last press conference at Wimbledon that his intention would be to rest that week in order to arrive in optimal conditions at the US Open. A thorough preparation, in which the first objective is to completely overcome abdominal discomfort so that you can fight for the grand prize: the 23rd Grand Slam.
