MSV Duisburg: Disappointed Ziegner wants to draw consequences

For the first time in his tenure as MSV coach, Torsten Ziegner was pissed off after the 4-2 defeat in Düren. The 44-year-old clearly found words towards the team.

Of the MSV Duisburg did not win his third preparatory game in a row. At the regional league promoted 1. FC Duren the zebras made a harmless appearance in the offensive game and showed well-known weaknesses in the defensive triple chain. The result was logical (2:4). Torsten Ziegner had announced that they wanted to radiate dominance in the Westkampfbahn from the first to the 90th minute. The opposite was the case.

“It’s disappointing because we had imagined it very differently. In preparation, results are not important. It was about how willing we were to counter a team that was aggressive and they were defending well,” said Ziegner, who felt that some players were “not getting injured or avoiding tackles wanted to go. Things like that will really get the team at odds with me. She heard that and it is unacceptable. The game will stay in your head,” the coach made clear. Anyone can have a bad day. “I will not only recognize it, but also draw consequences.”

Ziegner laments the attitude of his players

For the first time in his still short tenure, the 44-year-old was really let down by his players. A well-known problem that its predecessors often felt. Ziegner didn’t necessarily have the feeling during training that the regional league would show such a face. “It’s no use if we don’t bring the attitude with us on the day of the match,” complained the ex-professional, who will think very carefully about who he will line up for the third division start in Osnabrück in two weeks and who not. 20 healthy field players are currently available to the coach. Test player Gordon Wild has not (yet) signed a contract, according to Ziegner. A decision is still pending. With Sebastian Mai, the new defense chief has just started training.

“I will find eleven players who bring the attitude. And it doesn’t matter to me about the talent or where they played or not.” In Düren, Ziegner only made one change on Friday evening. Against Leverkusen on Saturday in Velbert (from 3.30 p.m. in the RS live ticker) the players who had to sit on the bench in Düren for the entire duration of the game should then be used.
