MLB: Two more years for Austin Barnes with the Los Angeles Dodgers

LOS ANGELES — Wide receiver Austin Barnes signed a two-year, $7 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday.

The contract covers the 2023 and 2024 seasons, when Barnes could have become a free agent after the next World Series.

Barnes will pocket $3.5 million for each of the next two seasons and the Dodgers have a $3.5 million option for the 2025 season. He can add $500,000 annually in performance bonuses based on games played.

A member of the 2020 World Series champion team, Barnes is batting .179 with four homers and 12 RBIs in 31 games this season. He struck out five of 14 runners who tried to steal a base against him.

Barnes is pocketing $2.6 million in 2022, the final season of a two-year, $4.3 million contract.

The 32-year-old Barnes was acquired from the Miami Marlins before the 2015 season. He is the Dodgers’ third-longest-serving player behind Clayton Kershaw and Justin Turner.
