What followed was a meteoric rise in the martial arts scene, until the aspiring fighter was finally signed by the market-leading MMA federation, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in 2013. McGregor tore his cruciate ligament in his second fight, but after his 11-month break he continued to fight his way up the MMA scene.
