Kawczynski leads Cologne to victory
In the long-distance duel with the Dohren Wild Farmers for the last playoff place, the Cologne Cardinals were able to present. They won their first game at Dortmund Wanderers 2-1.
Florian Kawczynski became the match winner. The Rhinelander’s starting pitcher completed a complete game in which he only gave up two hits and two walks and threw eight strikeouts.
In the third inning, Timo Stock gave the Cologne team a 1-0 lead. After a walk, a wild pitch and a stolen base, Stock was able to work his way to third base and scored the first run of the game after an error by Wanderers catcher Victor Velazquez Gillen.
A round later, the home side managed to equalize. After a double from Jorge Martin, Luis Martin Carrion came over the plate to make it 1-1. The decision was made in the fifth inning. Alexander Arets scored the 2-1 on a Canton Terry hit, which was to last until the end.
At Dortmund, Dave Paradela conceded the loss. In seven innings, the Venezuelan with a Spanish passport allowed four hits and five walks and racked up seven strikeouts.
